Transactions Not Importing Into QuickBooks Online
Fix a DocuClipper QBO Web Connect (.qbo) file that uploads to QuickBooks Online but imports 0 transactions: check duplicates, the target account, the opening balance date, and use the CSV upload as a fallback.

If a DocuClipper-converted file uploads to QuickBooks Online but imports 0 transactions, the statement almost always converted correctly — the transactions are being blocked at the QuickBooks import step. The most common causes are that QuickBooks already has those transactions (it dedupes on date + amount + description), the file was uploaded to a different account than the one you're viewing, or the transactions are dated before the account's opening balance date.
The most reliable fix for any provider — including ones that aren't in QuickBooks' bank list, such as Shopify Credit or PayPal — is to download the statement as CSV from DocuClipper and use QuickBooks Online's Upload from file instead of the .qbo Web Connect file.
Why did QuickBooks Online import 0 transactions?
First, confirm the conversion itself worked: open the job in DocuClipper and check that the transactions are present and the statement shows Reconciled. If the data is there, the problem is on the QuickBooks side. Work through these in order:
1. The transactions may already be in QuickBooks
QuickBooks Online skips any transaction it thinks it already has — it matches on date + amount + description. If you uploaded the file more than once, or the account already receives these transactions from a live bank feed or an earlier import, QuickBooks reports that it imported 0 because there is nothing new.
Check: open the account and look at the For Review tab, then also Categorized, Excluded, and All transactions. If the transactions are already there, no re-import is needed.
2. The file was uploaded to a different account
During upload, QuickBooks asks which account to add the transactions to. If the statement's account was added as a new account during import, the transactions may have landed there rather than the account you're looking at.
Check: confirm you're viewing the same account you selected during Upload from file.
3. The transactions are dated before the opening balance date
QuickBooks Online will not import transactions dated before the account's opening balance date. If the account was created recently with an opening date after the statement period, every transaction is silently dropped.
Fix: set the account's opening balance date to the start of the statement period (or earlier), then re-import.
4. The provider isn't in QuickBooks' bank list
The .qbo Web Connect format expects a financial institution that QuickBooks recognizes. For providers that aren't in QuickBooks' bank directory (for example Shopify Credit or PayPal), the .qbo route can be unreliable. Use the CSV upload instead — it doesn't depend on a bank identity and works for any account.
Import with a CSV instead (works for any provider)
- In DocuClipper, open the job and download the statement as CSV (or Excel) instead of QBO Web Connect.
- In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions → Bank transactions and select the target account.
- Click the dropdown next to Link account and choose Upload from file, then select your CSV.
- Map the three columns once — Date, Description, Amount — and continue.
- QuickBooks imports the transactions into the For Review tab, the same as a
.qbofile.
FAQs
My statement converted fine but QuickBooks imported nothing — why?
The conversion and the QuickBooks import are two separate steps. If DocuClipper shows the transactions and the statement is Reconciled, the data is correct; QuickBooks is blocking the import — most often because it already has the transactions, the file went to a different account, or the transactions predate the account's opening balance date.
Will re-uploading the same file create duplicates?
No. QuickBooks Online dedupes on date + amount + description, so re-importing an overlapping period is safe — but it also means a second upload of the same statement will import 0 new transactions.
How do I import a Shopify Credit or PayPal statement into QuickBooks Online?
Download the statement as CSV from DocuClipper and use QuickBooks Online's Upload from file option. These providers aren't in QuickBooks' bank list, so the CSV path is more reliable than the .qbo Web Connect file.
QuickBooks says the import succeeded but I don't see the transactions — where are they?
Check the For Review, Categorized, and Excluded tabs on the account you uploaded to, and confirm you're viewing the correct account. If they still aren't there, verify the transactions are dated on or after the account's opening balance date.
