Closing Your Account and Deleting Your Data
How to close your DocuClipper account from Settings, what happens to your documents and extracted data, how to request full erasure, and how to reopen an account within 12 months.
Last updated
To close your DocuClipper account, cancel your subscription first under Settings → Plan & Billing, then open Settings → Profile, click Delete my account, type DELETE, and confirm. You're signed out immediately and can no longer log in.
Closing your account is different from canceling your subscription. Canceling stops the billing; closing removes your access entirely. If you only want to stop paying, cancel — you keep your files until the end of the billing period.
How do I close my DocuClipper account?
- If you have an active subscription, cancel it first under Settings → Plan & Billing. We can't close an account that is still being billed.
- Click your name in the top-right corner and select Settings.
- Open the Profile tab.
- Click Delete my account.
- Type
DELETEin the confirmation box — the confirm button stays disabled until you do. - Click Yes, delete my account.
You're signed out straight away, and any app session already open elsewhere stops working too.
What happens to my data
- Your login stops working immediately. You can't sign in, and password reset won't reach the account.
- Your account is kept for 12 months. If you change your mind, support can reopen it and your settings come back with it.
- After 12 months it's removed. No action needed on your part.
- Converted files follow your plan's retention policy, which is separate from account closure — see How secure is DocuClipper.
Download anything you still need before you close the account. Once you're locked out you can't export, and support has to reopen the account to get your files back to you.
I want my data erased now, not in 12 months
Email support@docuclipper.com from the address on the account and ask for full erasure. We'll confirm once it's done. This is irreversible — there's no reopening afterwards.
If you're covered by GDPR, CCPA, or a similar regime, this is how to exercise your right to erasure.
Why can't I close my account?
DocuClipper blocks closure in two cases, and tells you which one applies:
"Please cancel your subscription first." Your plan is still active. Cancel it under Settings → Plan & Billing, then come back. Cancelling through the billing flow is what handles proration and any annual commitment correctly.
"Your access is managed by your team admin." You're on someone else's team, so your seat belongs to their contract, not to you. Ask your admin to remove your seat, or email support and we'll coordinate it.
Reopening a closed account
Email support@docuclipper.com from the address you used, within 12 months. We'll restore access and your settings. You'll need to start a new subscription — closing the account doesn't preserve your old plan or pricing.
FAQs
Is closing my account the same as canceling my subscription?
No. Canceling stops the billing and leaves you access until the end of the period. Closing removes your access immediately. Cancel if you just want to stop paying; close if you want the account gone.
Can I close my account while I still have an active subscription?
No — cancel the subscription first. Otherwise Stripe would keep billing a login nobody can reach.
Will closing my account stop me being charged?
Your subscription has to be cancelled before you can close the account, so billing has already stopped by that point.
I'm a team member. Why can't I close my own account?
Your seat is owned by your team's contract admin, so removing it is their call. Ask them to remove your seat, or contact support.
Can I get my account back after closing it?
Yes, within 12 months — email support from the account's email address. After that the account is removed and can't be recovered.
How do I delete my data immediately?
Email support@docuclipper.com and ask for full erasure rather than closing the account yourself.
